Do Right By the station that has done right by the Big Broadcast

This is from producer Bryan Wright's announcement about The BB Vol 12 CD, soon to be released, for which I did the COVER. (Excited am I? Just a touch.) How I wish Rich Conaty was still here... I miss him. I love that his legacy lives on in this great music he shared with us. I consulted with Bryan as I worked on the painting, which I'd based on a few conversations with Rich last year.

"For those who have been wondering, 'The Big Broadcast, Volume 12' went to the CD pressing plant today. Rich had hand-picked all of the 26 selections before he died, but he hadn't completed the liner notes. Nearly two dozen of his friends and colleagues in the business stepped in, and the result is a mammoth 40-page booklet with over 30 illustrations and a CD packed to the gills with 80 minutes of music. The collection features the usual mix of well-loved favorites and obscurities, with previously unreissued performances from Ukulele Ike, Lee Morse, Hal Kemp, Willard Robison, Smith Ballew, Paul Whiteman, Al Bowlly, Ramona, Claude Hopkins, Billy Cotton, Joe Sanders (of Coon-Sanders Nighthawks fame), Roy Fox, Gene Austin, George Olsen, and more. This last CD in the "Big Broadcast" series also includes a number of important "firsts": Jack Teagarden's very first trombone solo on record (previously unreissued!), a title from Arthur Tracy's first recording session, one of Harry Roy's very first records, and what appears to be the first commercial recording of "Out of Nowhere." WFUV will start shipping the CDs to WFUV members next month. If you haven't already, I'd encourage you to head on over to wfuv.org and -- as Rich would say -- do right by the station that has done right by "The Big Broadcast" for over 40 years. Contribute to WFUV today, show your support for "The Big Broadcast," and get a copy "hot-off-the-press" next month. In the meantime, here's a sneak peek at the wonderfully atmospheric cover by Erica Hauser. (Rich suggested the concept to her and she brought it to life beautifully! -- I love the radio in the window.)"
