This year's theme for the Perry Chalk Art Fest was 'New York State of Mind'. I tried a new (to me) technique, painting with chalk and water. Scribbling on the pastels and then spreading/blending with a wet brush. Much faster and it created a smoother finish, working the color into the pavement. New York to me is both city and 'upstate', for this I decided to go with peaceful, lush green summertime upstate feeling. The drawing is based on a tiny image from a vintage road map.
