I painted this wood hat cutout for an upcoming fundraising auction for the Beacon Historical Society. (Hats because of Beacon's past hat-making industry.) Hats by many local artists are on display through October at Beacon Bath and Bubble, followed by the auction Nov 5 at the Howland Center.
I built up the surface of my hat with lines and color as I went, leaving some early layers and painting over most areas: improvising but with a structure/idea in mind, like building a place in the community over time.
